An exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a Frederick Rathbone marked rolling pin in the iconic Burgess Chintz pattern. Frederick Rathbone was the preeminent authority on Wedgwood and a legendary 19th-century dealer; items bearing his specific South Kensington mark are highly coveted by ceramics scholars and baking enthusiasts alike.
This is a traditional water-filled model, designed to be filled with iced water to keep pastry dough perfectly chilled. The all-ceramic body features the intricate, dense floral 'Chintz' pattern in deep indigo blue.

Condition: Excellent vintage/antique condition. The ceramic body is structurally perfect and has a clear, bright resonance when tapped. Being a genuine antique, there is a minute amount of age-related glaze crazing, visible only upon close inspection, which confirms its historical authenticity.

As is characteristic of hand-applied 19th-century tissue transferware, there is a visible artisan seam/join line along the body. There is also a charming area of pattern misalignment and 'glaze-haze', directly under the badge. There is a 7cm gap between the artisan seam and a characteristic 'transfer gap' suggesting that the decorator may have used a filler piece rather than waste a sheet of transfer.
Please see the detailed macro photos (indicated with a pencil point) showing the authentic 19th-century manufacturing marks. These are not 'damage', but fascinating evidence of the hand-applied tissue process used by Frederick Rathbone's decorators. It's vintage quirky!

The Stoppers are present.
The Badge/Mark: Features the clear black-and-white Frederick Rathbone crest.
