A stunningly vibrant vintage ceramic fish-shaped serving platter from the esteemed Saint-Clément earthenware factory in Lorraine, France.
Dating to the 1960s or 1970s mid-century modern era, this highly collectible piece (Form No. 1304) features a spectacular polychrome volcanic drip glaze. The centre shows an intense, fiery crimson red textured glaze pooling beautifully within a high-gloss caramel-brown contoured body. 'He' has a very perplexed expression!!
The base features the authentic unglazed foot ring with the signature factory four-pointed cross alignment mold indentation.
This handsome fish makes a marvellous retro coastal kitchen centrepiece, an eye-catching seafood serving dish, or a striking display pop for a mid-century modern shelf.
Overall in very good, bright vintage condition. The fiery red volcanic glaze is remarkably rich and crisp. There is a minor amount of fine glaze crazing present upon close inspection (typical for mid-century French earthenware), along with one small, very minor (barely noticeable) vintage "nibble" to the edge rim (clearly highlighted in the final gallery photos). Priced accordingly for its authentic vintage age.
Approx 26cm x 18cm
